ABOUT FAÇADES & FORTRESSES
Our Mission
Anthropologists and Historians providing authentic history and culture to the inquisitive
Our Story
Anthropologists and Historians as tour guides

Helsinki's History and culture is complex.
To communicate this complexity objectively and accurately requires dedicated examination and study, and then the passion and enthusiasm to explicate it truthfully.
These are our qualities.
We are professional anthropologists and historians who are authorised Suomenlinna tour Guides, a UNESCO Heritage Site (inscribed in 1991). The construction of this fortress, and the battles fought over it, shaped Helsinki's history and architecture.
Hindsight is a fickle master, wield it objectively.

Helsinki's complex history and culture can be neither oversimplified nor avoided. therefore, Each of our tours is immersive, transformative, steeped in discovery and veneration, for you we will create meaningful and authentic tours which will stay in your memory long after you leave Helsinki.

The first impressions on entering the Finnish harbour of Helsingfors were very pleasing; there was a certain indefinable charm about the scene as we passed in and out among the thickly-wooded islands, or dived between those strong but almost hidden fortifications of which the Russians are so proud.
Once having passed these impregnable mysteries, we found ourselves in open water, and before us the town with its fine Russian church of red brick with rounded dome, the Finnish church of white stone, and several other handsome buildings denoting a place of importance and considerable beauty.
Ethel Tweedie "Finland in Carts" (1897)
